NOTE TO SELF | CARTE BLANCHE

The blog’s been quiet lately, and that’s because I’ve been binge-watching Suits. It all started on Maundy Thursday, and as of April 26, 2025, I’m already deep into Season 8. I enjoy some of the plotlines, and I get a kick out of how many characters kick off their sentences with the word “bullshit.” Plus, the soundtrack? Solid.
Yes, I have lawyer friends. But even as a kid, I’ve always been into procedurals—especially the legal kind. I was a fan of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and way before that, I was into LA Law, Law & Order, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal, and Ed.
Especially Ed.
In Season 3, Episode 3 of Suits, I came across the term carte blanche—a French phrase that means having full, unrestricted freedom to do whatever you think is best. I like that. It reminds me of another phrase I’ve always believed in: creative freedom.
As a writer, I thrive when I can work on my own terms—my way, my time, my mood. When I’m in the right headspace, I get things done. Sure, I’m at a point in my career where AI tools help sharpen what I do. But I still believe that nothing beats loving what you’re working on. And that only really happens when you’re given full creative control.
Which, come to think of it, is exactly why I keep this blog.
