A couple of weeks before I posted this, it was reported that San Beda guard Jacob Cortez has transferred to the DLSU Green Archers.
If the second generation player plans to extend his playing career to the pros, then this is a good move. In fact, his father, Mike Cortez, is the top pick of the 2003 PBA Draft. And The Cool Cat made that distinction despite a rich pool of MBA, Fil-Am, and other top collegiate players.
Including 1993 top pick Jun Limpot and 1994 top pick Noli Locsin (studied in Benilde, but competed for DLSU in the UAAP,) the Green Archers are second overall for most top picks behind the Ateneo Blue Eagles. But while Ateneo produced more top picks and PBA players from 2003, if you are a PBA Draft applicant coming from the DLSU program, there is a 89 percent chance that the said player is going to see action in the PBA. Heck, one could argue that BJ Manalo could have been a PBA player had not for luck.
Like Ateneo, the school has yet to produce a PBA MVP. With that said, the school has produced a championship-winning superstars.
