The point guard is the coach's representative inside the basketball court and Tim Cone lucked out when he selected Johnny Abarrientos as the third overall pick in the 1993 PBA Draft. The Flying A designed Alaska’s 1996 Grand Slam awesomeness with his flashy passes, spot-on stop and pops, and superb swipes. It was also in 1996 that the former FEU hotshot scored his only MVP award and this made Abarrientos as the shortest player to win the top individual prize. The eight-time PBA season steals leader was so good that he almost saw action for the Charlotte Hornets. No wonder Cone would use the skillset of Abarrientos in choosing his quarterbacks (just look at how Mark Barroca and LA Tenorio man Cone's title squads).
