Shell could have drafted James Yap as the top pick of the 2004 PBA Draft. However, Purefoods was deadset to pick the former UE Red Warrior. The two teams basically traded Yap's rights - alongside former MBA MVP Eddie Laure and the rights to the pick seventh for Billy Mamaril.

Shell would select Rich Alvarez as the top pick and Purefoods would use the seventh pick to select Yap's former Welcoat teammate and Kai's dad Ervin Sotto.

NOTE: This is still an active player. These numbers are good as of September 23, 2022.
