NOTE: This will be my final politically driven blog entry—promise.
I was casually browsing YouTube when my feed got flooded with clips covering the official proclamation of the 12 winning senators. Each video included rankings, vote totals, and percentages. That got me thinking: why not take a step back and look at the results through a statistical lens?
This post is all about numbers—not opinions. I’ll do my best to keep it as objective as possible and focus purely on the electoral records.
Let’s start with a veteran: Tito Sotto. He’s been in the Senate since 1992, the last time all 24 senatorial seats were contested in a single election. Sotto now holds a 5-1 win-loss record in Senate races, his only defeat coming in 2007—an election cycle where endorsements from then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo carried more baggage than boost.
Sotto shares the record for most senatorial campaigns (6) with Gringo Honasan, who holds a 4-2 record. Honasan missed the mark in his last two Senate runs—three if you count his 2016 vice presidential bid. In 2001, Honasan secured a Senate seat by finishing 13th, filling the vacancy left by Teofisto Guingona’s appointment as vice president.
Undefeated in their senatorial campaigns are Kiko Pangilinan, Ping Lacson, Pia Cayetano, and Lito Lapid, each with a perfect 4-0 record. Bong Revilla follows with a respectable 3-1 slate.
Among the 2025 winners, only two are first-timers: Erwin Tulfo and Camille Villar, both of whom join their respective siblings in the upper chamber.
Of note, Rodante Marcoleta rebounded from a 2022 loss to secure a seat this time around. On the flip side, Bam Aquino failed to make a return.
Meanwhile, Bong Go, Bato dela Rosa, and Imee Marcos are 2-0 in their Senate bids, maintaining clean records. The only repeat candidate with a sub-.500 record is Francis Tolentino, now sitting at 1 win and 2 losses.
Lastly, Manny Pacquiao has now suffered two straight electoral defeats, including his unsuccessful run for the presidency in 2022.
