THOUGHTS | ELECTION DAY

SOMEONE TOOK THE FLUSH BUTTON...
SOMEONE TOOK THE FLUSH BUTTON...

I just went through hell.

Election hell.

And let me tell you, I’m fat.

Do you know what’s a terrible way to lose weight and destroy your knees at the same time? Standing in a long, slow-moving line in front of a ton of people… only to reach a holding area filled with tiny kiddie chairs with armrests.

You sit, scoot, stand, move to the next mini chair, repeat.

Honestly, I would’ve preferred just standing the whole time.

Sitting on those chairs felt like punishment.

Another thing: I am never parking at the polling precinct again. It wasn’t even the traffic—that wasn’t too bad, especially around 3 p.m.—it’s the sheer number of people and the stress of trying to find a spot. And if you’ve got parking anxiety like I do, it’s just not worth it. I’ve now come up with a new strategy: park at the mall and take a taxi to the precinct. That way, I know my car is safe and the only struggle left is convincing the taxi driver to take me to the precinct, since most of them just want to bring people back from there.

Now, let’s talk politics. I’ve always believed that politicians need a bit of corruption in their system just so they can compensate with good decisions. Lesser evils make more sense to me than idealists who shake up the system but can’t fix the mess they started. If you’re a multi-termer who spent time dancing on TV instead of legislating—and especially if you’ve been in detention—that’s a no from me. If you’re a rookie whose platform begins with “I don’t know anything,” then congratulations, you’ve already lost me. But if you’re some rich kid making viral videos pretending to eat like the masses? I might just vote for you. At least you’re trying to connect.

I’m not even against political dynasties. Say what you will, but many of them were potty-trained for this. They know how to play the game—for better or worse. That’s still better than rookies with zero political tact who’ll get eaten alive the moment they try to work with the system.

Midterm elections are crucial. They set the stage for the presidential race. And right now, the 2022 alliance is falling apart. This election is shaping up to be someone’s launching pad to a higher position. With millennials finally stepping up and influencing the vote, we might just see a real shift come 2028.

Oh, and my biggest takeaway from all of this?

Don’t ruin your feet the Sunday before election day.

You’ll end up sweating bullets and regretting every step.
