TWO BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN BLOODY GAME X

Lee Gwan Hee

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Korean variety shows.

While I enjoy staples like 1N2D and Running Man, it's the survival shows that really hook me.

I'm a big fan of The Genius, Crime Scene, The Devil's Plan, and The Bloody Game (also known as Game of Blood in some regions).

Anyway, Bloody Game's latest installment, Bloody Game X, brings together returning players and newcomers in a ruthless battle for the top individual prize.

And when I say ruthless, I mean it.

In the previous two seasons, contestants trashed an expensive-looking mansion. There was violence, backstabbing, disregard for age and gender, and the contestants even had to sleep in very unsavory conditions.

Physical confrontations aren't just possible, they're encouraged, except when lives are involved.

What caught my attention this season is that two contestants have already appeared on this site.

The first is Ha Seung-jin, the first Korean-born player to reach the NBA. He competed in Season 2 and became unforgettable after his explosive confrontation with Dex. Watching the 7-foot-3 giant charge at him felt like King Kong trying to catch a banana, except that banana happened to be a former member of the Korean Navy.

The other is Lee Gwan Hee. If you've watched Single's Inferno Season 3, you'll probably remember him as the charismatic, funny playboy who became one of the show's biggest personalities.

Off reality TV, however, Gwan Hee is one of the KBL's veteran guards. During the 2025-26 season, the 37-year-old averaged 10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 37 games for the Seoul Samsung Thunders, where he currently plays alongside Filipino guard Justin Gutang. Before that, he suited up for the Wonju Dongbu Promy during the 2024-25 season with Ethan Alvano as his teammate, and for the Changwon LG Sakers in 2023-24, where he also shared the court with Gutang.

Filipino basketball fans may also remember his stint as Phoenix's Asian import in the PBA back in 2016.

Going into Bloody Game X, I honestly expected Gwan Hee to be the stereotypical athlete. After all, Single's Inferno painted him as the confident jock who formed one of the show's most memorable pairings with Choi Hye Seon before they eventually went their separate ways after filming.

He also came across as hilariously squeamish when he reacted to champorado during his visit to the Philippines with Physical: 100 Season 2 standout and Physical: Asia champion Amotti.

Instead, Bloody Game X has revealed a completely different side of him. Beneath the playful persona is someone who's surprisingly sharp, strategic, and capable of holding his own in one of Korea's most mentally demanding competition shows.

If you're curious to see how he performs, I highly recommend checking out Bloody Game X. It's intense, cutthroat, and filled with psychological warfare and intricate strategy. If you're a fan of Survivor or games that reward intelligence as much as social play, this is a series that's well worth your time.
