UAAP SEASON 88 | FINALS STATS

ree

The DLSU Green Archers were never supposed to win UAAP Season 88.

If anything, this was shaping up to be a letdown year.

The prevailing narrative should have been a long list of “what-ifs,” starting with how different their season might have looked if not for UE’s Wello Lingolingo taking out Kean Baclaan. Add to that the loss of Mason Amos, a former Ateneo Blue Eagle, and suddenly La Salle looked short-handed at the worst possible time.

With all the injuries, roster changes, and the way other teams performed, just making the Final Four already felt like an overachievement.

And yet, La Salle did more than show up. They took down the top-seeded NU Bulldogs, forced their way into a three-game Finals war against the UP Fighting Maroons, and somehow emerged champions.

Michael Phillips capped his La Salle career with a near 20-20 performance. Kean Baclaan and Mason Amos recovered from injury and gave exactly what the team needed when it mattered most. Jacob Cortez, meanwhile, proved that his reputation is real—that wherever he goes, whether in the UAAP or the NCAA, he knows how to get teams to the promised land. And for Topex Robinson, after years of playing the bridesmaid, the elusive championship finally came.

But this title was never just about the big names. It was about timely contributions and players seizing their moment. Harold Alarcon detonated for 34 points in Game 1. Andrei Dungo chipped in 15 alongside Cortez, with four others scoring seven points or more. In Game 2, JC Macalalag answered the call. In the clincher, Earl Abadam and Vhoris Marasigan provided crucial support off the bench.

These are the numbers. And they tell the story of a championship no one saw coming—but one the Green Archers undeniably earned.
