For the second straight conference, the young Rain or Shine Elasto Painters found themselves back in the semifinals. And while they ultimately fell to the eventual champions, TNT Tropang GIGA, there’s no denying that the future looks promising for ROS.
After dropping their opening game, the E-Painters bounced back with five straight wins. Even without Gian Mamuyac for the entire elimination round, they managed to post a solid 7-5 record, thanks to the steady presence of import Deon Thompson and the emergence of super sophomore Adrian Nocum.
The team still lacks a true go-to guy, especially in the paint, as they barely got past the upstart Converge FiberXers. Still, they have the pieces to mirror the grit and grind of Yeng Guiao’s old Red Bull squad—or even rekindle the championship-hunting Rain or Shine team that once had young versions of Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga leading the way.
