Six TNT players scored 20 points or more in the series, and two of those big games came from Jordan Heading. However, in Game 2, Heading played sparingly and went scoreless.
JP Erram, coming off his finals performance with Gilas Pilipinas against Thailand, shocked the Meralco Bolts with 27 points in that game. But in the four other games, he only had a combined 20 points.
RR Pogoy erupted for 28 points in Game 3, then played sparingly in Game 4 and eventually got a DNP in Game 5 because of injury. It was the same case with Rey Nambatac, although he still finished Game 5 with 25 points, which was six points fewer than Heading’s output in that game.
And yes, I purposely left Calvin Oftana and Kelly Williams out of this discussion.
This might end up being TNT’s edge. They tried to win a grand slam with a battered lineup, and now they are coming back for revenge with a roster overflowing with options.
Meanwhile, Meralco had to fight for their lives without their top guy, Chris Newsome, who was out due to injury. CJ Cansino and Chris Banchero tried to carry their finals hopes, but it was clear that their team simply could not match up with the other MVP squad.
