GAME 7 | GINEBRA VERSUS TNT

Last Sunday, TNT forced a winner-take-all Game 7 after its two imports combined for 105 of the 188 total points scored by both teams. That's nearly 56 percent of the game's offense coming from just Chris McCullough and Justin Brownlee, which tells you everything you need to know about how much these two stars have carried their respective squads.

With the championship on the line, expect both imports and all the locals, for that matter, to empty the tank one last time.

Looking back at the series, an interesting pattern has emerged. Ginebra has won every odd-numbered game, while TNT has taken every even-numbered contest. If that trend holds, the Gin Kings would have the edge in Game 7 and could complete the conference grand slam, with RJ Abarrientos winning BPC honors and Brownlee securing another Best Import award.

Of course, trends and patterns only tell part of the story. Let's dive deeper into the numbers and see if the statistics reveal any clues behind each team's wins and losses.

Can Justin Brownlee deliver another 40-point masterpiece while getting enough help from the locals?

As much as Ginebra leans on its resident import in big games, the Gin Kings will need significant contributions from RJ Abarrientos, Scottie Thompson, Troy Rosario, Japeth Aguilar, and Stephen Holt if they hope to secure the championship.

Thompson and Holt, in particular, have to raise their level of play. Scottie averages nearly 13 points in Ginebra's wins, but that figure plummets to just five points in their losses. Holt follows a similar pattern, contributing around eight points in victories but only about four points when the Gin Kings come up short. Those numbers suggest that while Brownlee remains the engine, Ginebra becomes far more dangerous when its supporting cast is actively involved in the offense.

Then there's Abarrientos. Ever since clinching the BPC, his production has dipped, making him a strong candidate for a bounce-back performance in the biggest game of the series. A confident and aggressive RJ would give TNT another scoring threat to worry about and ease some of the pressure on Brownlee.

There's no question that Tim Cone will once again look to Brownlee to take control when the game is on the line. But asking him to carry the entire offensive load in a winner-take-all contest is a risky proposition. If Ginebra is going to finish the job, it will need its locals to show up in a big way and provide the support that has often been the difference between victory and defeat throughout this series.

CHRIS MCCULLOUGH | PBA STATS

TNT TROPANG 5G

The situation may be even more complicated for TNT. Yes, the Tropang 5G fought tooth and nail to force a Game 7, but the effort may have come at a steep price. Aside from having to deal with the odd-game trend that has favored Ginebra throughout the series, TNT is also facing uncertainty surrounding Calvin Oftana, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, and Jayson Castro, who suffered a foot injury in the previous game.

That uncertainty could force Chot Reyes to lean more heavily on his bench. The problem? The numbers suggest that a deeper rotation hasn't necessarily worked in TNT's favor. In their three victories, the Tropang 5G utilized just 11 players. In their three defeats, that number expanded to 13. While that doesn't automatically mean a shorter rotation guarantees success, it does suggest that TNT is at its best when its core group carries most of the workload.

Among the locals, Calvin Oftana and Jordan Heading have been the biggest indicators of TNT's success. In the team's three wins, both players have scored in the 20-point range. In the losses, however, their production has fallen to single digits. When those two are aggressive and productive, TNT becomes a much tougher team to beat.

What's even more telling is Chris McCullough's scoring pattern. Before his explosive 53-point performance in Game 6, TNT had already won twice, with him averaging just 22.5 points per game. That suggests the Tropang 5G don't necessarily need a superhuman scoring night from their import to win. In fact, McCullough's Game 6 eruption felt more like a necessity than a luxury, as Reyes struggled to get enough offensive support from the rest of his roster.

If TNT hopes to pull off one more victory, players like RR Pogoy will have to step up. However, the numbers present a fascinating dilemma. In TNT's three wins, Pogoy has averaged fewer than 10 points per game. In their three losses, that figure skyrockets to 24.3 points. On the surface, that sounds backward, but it likely reflects a larger reality: when Pogoy is forced to carry a bigger offensive burden, it often means the rest of TNT's attack isn't functioning as intended.

But like analytics, plus-minus numbers, and the often-questionable predictions of bloggers like me, perhaps the best way to view Game 7 is simple:

ALL BETS ARE OFF!!!

The season began with plenty of talk about how the PBA had lost its edge. Yet this conference has managed to spark something different. Sure, the league still faces criticism for a system that seems to favor the richer teams, but the product on the court has been undeniably entertaining. Every game has carried weight, every possession has felt important, and fans have responded.

A lot of the early-season buzz centered around Bol Manute Bol. Unfortunately, injuries forced him to leave the country, but the excitement surrounding the league didn't leave with him. Fans are still showing up, arenas are still buzzing, and the games continue to deliver compelling storylines.

I expect Game 7 to be no different. Whether you're someone who believes the games are scripted—which I certainly don't—or someone who simply enjoys high-level basketball, what awaits is two teams leaving everything on the floor for a championship. No trends, statistics, or narratives will matter once the ball goes up. At that point, it's about execution, composure, and who can make the biggest plays under the brightest lights.

If I had to make one final prediction, though, it's this: if Ginebra wins Game 7, RJ Abarrientos will walk away with the Finals MVP award. If TNT successfully defends its crown, Jordan Heading will finally add a Finals MVP trophy to his growing résumé.

Whatever happens, one thing feels certain. Whether you're watching from the arena, on television, or through a livestream, expect a show. These two teams have spent six games proving they belong on this stage, and now they have one last opportunity to decide who deserves to be called champion.
