NCAA SEASON 102 | POWER RANKINGS | FROM START TO SEPTEMBER 25

Okay, let’s do this.

This is my first NCAA Power Rankings for Season 102.

Yey.

But hey, let’s go back to 2024.

Two seasons ago, Denzil Walker appeared in five games for the UP Fighting Maroons and averaged 0.4 points and 0.8 assists. Yes, UP won the championship, but his appearances were anything but cameos. Meanwhile, his teammate, Sean Torculas, was part of the rotation, but he was overshadowed by the likes of Quentin Millora-Brown, JD Cagulangan, Francis Lopez, and the Maroon Five.

On the other side of the 2024 UAAP Finals was Matthew Rubico. After a successful stint with the LPU Junior Pirates, where he made the Mythical Five in Season 98 alongside current Penn State Nittany Lion Andy Gemao, 2026 Asian Games 3X3 participant Luis Pablo, current DLSU player Seven Gagate, current UST player Amiel Acido, and one-time NCAA Seniors champion and current JRU Heavy Bomber Chris Hubilla, Rubico made the jump to the UAAP. In 10 games, he posted just 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds.

Now, Walker is playing for the Letran Knights, Torculas is with the San Beda Red Lions, and Rubico is back with LPU.

And these guys have been awesome for their respective teams.

That said, another former NCAA Juniors star is leading the rankings. After a successful rookie campaign, Jonathan “Titing” Manalili is back for perhaps another crack at the championship and the MVP award. One of the title finalists alongside current DLSU Green Archer Janti Miller and reigning MVP Allen Liwag, Manalili is showing everyone the wonder kid is back on the prowl, especially with Miller out of the NCAA and Liwag sidelined by injury.

However, Titing faces tough competition, and most of it plays his position. After a good rookie campaign, Jimmy Reyes is seen as the top point guard at San Beda. The same can be said for JRU Heavy Bomber Lawrence Mangubat, who sat out Season 101 after helping the Mapua Cardinals to a championship in 2024.

T-MC Ongotan may be more of a shooting guard than a point guard, but

he is taking on an even bigger responsibility as he tries to take the Arellano Chiefs back to the Finals. And speaking of finalists, Jhomel Ancheta’s bigger role with the Benilde Blazers should make up for everything until the return of Liwag.

Most of the teams, except for San Beda and JRU, have played three games or more.

Hopefully, the NCAA’s de facto arena, the FilOil Arena in San Juan, is now leak-free.
