Oversimplified is the epitome of quality over quantity.
Even if he stood 2023 up, his videos were still able to breach the two million views mark.
If you don't know how awesome his videos are, you need to start with his take on Adolf Hitler, World War I, and World War II. The dude makes history fun. And if you think his jokes have gone stale, he would double down on his research. The best thing about his videos is his research, and you can see his evolution from the under-15-minute to his current almost 30-minute two-parters.
Or three.
Spoiler alert.
Now I LOVE this video drop because it felt like he took time to iron out the kinks. The First Punic War videos have a couple of hits and misses, especially in the comedy. The Second Punic War videos are better because not only did he make a virtually new set of Oversimplified brand of comedy jokes, but his simple drawings have also become complex. There is a shadow in his figures. It felt like they also have some sort of lighting and other things you can have when you double-click a Photoshop layer.
IT HAS LENS FLARE!!!
And again, the research.
I don't know much about the Punic Wars. Unlike the American Civil War, I cared about this story because I was fascinated with the Roman Empire. My idea of Rome is that there are two babies that were raised by a she-wolf and a few centuries later, out came Julius Caesar and the shit they did with Christianity.
I also know about Hannibal in passing. I just know about him as the dude with the elephants who eventually lost to a Roman general. During Oversimplified's play-by-play analysis of his war victories, it felt as if history slept on his accomplishments. Is it recency bias that we care more for Douglas MacArthur, the Nazi campaign, and even Napoleon, George Washington, and the Spanish expedition even if the strategies from the BC parts of history are really good?
Now I want to really know what the hell Caesar, Alexander, and Genghis Khan really did.
I mean, I have seen a bunch of documentaries involving these generals.
But I want the Oversimplified version.
Anyway, check out the links.
