Directly hired in 1988, the UE standout would go on to become a 9-time All-Defensive Team member, a Defensive Player of the Year in 1994, and the league’s most reliable rim protector for over a decade. But Jerry wasn’t just a defensive specialist—his 3 Mythical First Team selections, 2 Best Player of the Conference awards, and a Finals MVP in the 1997 All-Filipino Cup show his all-around impact. A 5-time champion and 2-time Sportsmanship Awardee, Codiñera blended toughness with grace, earning the respect of teammates and rivals alike. His legacy?
