In May 2015, Jiwan Kim made history as the first South Korean professional basketball player to suit up in the PBA, joining Barangay Ginebra as an Asian import for the Governors’ Cup, replacing Mongolian player Sanchir Tungalag.
Loaned by his then-KBL team, Incheon ET Land Elephants, Kim debuted with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists—showing flashes of all-around play and toughness. Though his stint was brief, it symbolized a cultural bridge between KBL and the PBA and expanded the league’s reach in East Asia.
