Sanchir Tungalag made history as the first Mongolian to suit up in the PBA, but his stint with Ginebra was short-lived and somewhat bittersweet. Despite being the face of Mongolia’s national team and posting solid numbers in the 2014 Asian Games, Sanchir never found his footing under coach Frankie Lim. He played just four games, averaging a quiet 4.5 points and 1.0 rebound in limited minutes.

Reports suggest that language barriers and lack of chemistry with the team were key reasons for his early exit. Eventually, he was replaced by South Korea’s Jiwan Kim in Ginebra’s bid for a playoff run. Still, Tungalag’s brief appearance marked an important milestone for Mongolian basketball on the international stage.
