Stephen Howard brought veteran poise and NBA Finals experience to the PBA when he joined San Miguel in 2000. A former member of the Utah Jazz team that battled Michael Jordan’s Bulls in the 1997 NBA Finals, Howard was known for his versatile forward play and high basketball IQ.
In his debut conference, he delivered exactly what San Miguel needed—stability, rebounding, and timely scoring—leading the Beermen to the 2000 Commissioner’s Cup championship. While he wasn’t as flashy as other imports, his professionalism and ability to fit into a structured system made him a perfect complement to SMB’s powerhouse local core.
