They called him “The Bicolano Superman” for a reason—Elpidio Villamin combined brute strength with unshakable toughness to become one of the most intimidating forces in the paint during the '80s and early '90s. A direct hire by Crispa in 1981, Villamin won 9 championships, including a Grand Slam in 1983, but it was his defensive prowess that earned him league-wide respect. A 7-time All-Defensive Team selection, Villamin patrolled the lane with a bruising presence that made opponents think twice about driving in. He peaked in 1987 with a Mythical First Team selection, later adding three more Mythical Second Team nods as he extended his career into the late '90s. He may not have taken home an MVP, but in the trenches of PBA warfare, Villamin was as reliable as they came—a blue-collar giant who did the dirty work with superhuman effort.
