PBA DRAFT | WHAT THEY GOT - SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN

Updated: Jun 26, 2022

RD 3 PICK 33 – JERWYN GUINTO
RD 4 PICK 41 – LYNDON COLINA
RD 5 PICK 49 – JOHN GONZAGA
RD 5 PICK 52 – CJ CADUA

Like TNT and in some ways Magnolia and Ginebra, San Miguel gets their players through trades. Over the years, they have traded away old guns Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot for a haul that included Terrence Romeo, CJ Perez, Vic Manuel, and Simon Enciso.

The last third-rounder to play for San Miguel is Mike Mabulac in 2015. Sam Marata got the nod in 2013 but before Marata and Mabulac, the last third-round pick San Miguel selected and played is Josel Angeles when the team selected him to 22nd in the 1990 PBA Draft.

1990!!!

With that said, I think they found a noteworthy addition in Jerwyn Guinto. I projected the former Lyceum Pirate as a second-round pick and while Guinto’s stock was held back because of Lyceum’s so-so NCAA showing, there might be a chance for Guinto to get a spot in the main roster or in its 3X3 version.

As for Lyndon Colina and John Gonzaga, the stacks are against them making this talent-rich roster. I think they are better off fine-tuning their skills in the MPBL than staying stuck on their practice squad.

Got to feel it for CJ Cadua though. I saw Cadua and Marwin Taywan play their guts out for the EAC Generals and I thought for sure they would have at least a third-round mention.
