Graceful, cerebral, and utterly disruptive on defense, Philip Cezar was the perfect complement to the offensive firepower of the legendary Crispa teams. Known as the “Tapal King” for his impeccable shot-blocking timing, Cezar was a 6-foot-4 defensive anchor who could guard multiple positions—decades before versatility became a basketball buzzword. He won MVP honors in 1980, made the Mythical Five seven times, and earned four All-Defensive Team selections, all while amassing an incredible 15 championships, including two Grand Slams (1976, 1983). Though often overshadowed by flashier stars, Cezar’s elegant footwork, basketball IQ, and quiet dominance made him one of the PBA’s most complete and respected players.
