ROUND OF 16, BABY!!!

While I'm still going to be somewhat of a party pooper and say we shouldn't be celebrating Alex Eala's Wimbledon win over world number three and defending champion Iga Swiatek because I want to see her win this damn thing...
What she accomplished is SOOOO COOOOL.
I mean, it sucks for Iga to see Eala celebrate like Victor Wembanyama when the San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, knowing they still had the New York Knicks waiting in the Finals, but I get where Alex Eala is coming from.
Yes, she was spot on when she said that, for the other Grand Slam winners, what she accomplished may be nothing special. But for the Philippines, this is freakin' gold.
I mean, you only see tennis courts in rich subdivisions or country clubs. I bet you don't know anyone who plays that sport in front of their house, unless said acquaintance lives in front of a tennis court.
The sport is just complicated.
Never mind the fact that it has a complicated scoring system, a regulated venue, and extremely expensive equipment. The mere fact that you have to serve the ball and let it bounce first before hitting it is already a challenge.
You and your yaya can play volleyball or badminton in front of your house.
But tennis?
TENNIS?!?
That is why, again, I get why Alex Eala said it's a big deal for her to be at this level.
But again, I want her to forget about her Round of 16 win and finish off the rest of the field. Her next match is against Jasmine Paolini of Italy. If Alex Eala gets past the Italian, she'll have an easier route to the finals because the other bracket has the likes of Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, Karolína Muchová, and world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
Like I said in my earlier post, whatever Alex Eala does at Wimbledon 2026 is already record-breaking. That said, what better way to end a historic run than with the best possible conclusion?
Let's go, Alex!!!
