LAMELO BALL | MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES

So, LaMelo Ball has been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid and a haul of assets. Now, I know it feels like Charlotte has taken a major blow here, but they've essentially chosen to build around Kon Knueppel from this point forward and give him the pieces he needs to succeed.

For Minnesota, the goal is to contend. Yes, they tried Mike Conley and Bones Hyland at point guard, but they also needed another scoring threat who could create space for Anthony Edwards. With this trade, they get Ball, a player who can knock down threes and attack the basket while having no problem deferring to Ant-Man when needed. After all, one of Ball's greatest strengths is his passing.

Man, I'm going to miss those lob passes to Miles Bridges. But then again, having Anthony Edwards as the primary recipient is an insane upgrade.

Will this trade be enough to propel either team to the top? Could we even see an NBA Finals matchup with Minnesota representing the West and Charlotte leading the East?

Well...

At this point, I'd call it a stalemate.

Minnesota will need more than LaMelo Ball to conquer the Western Conference, especially after losing both Julius Randle and Naz Reid a week before free agency. Meanwhile, Charlotte's biggest statement with this trade is that the franchise is committing to Kon Knueppel over LaMelo Ball. However, it also feels like the Hornets have taken a step back in their quest to become a playoff contender.

Anyway, let's see how these teams fare once the preseason begins in July.
