THOUGHTS | WHY NBA COACHES NEED A WARDROBE CHANGE

The Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves just got into a brawl involving seven players—including, of course, Isaiah Stewart and Ron Holland. But what really caught me off guard? Donte DiVincenzo getting involved. If he wants to elevate his status in the league, he needs to cut out the instigating. Beef Stew is an enforcer—it’s his job to stir things up and bait a superstar off the court. But DiVincenzo? Before the trade, he was solidifying himself as a key starter. Since he’s known for his offense, he should focus on that—because how can a scorer score if he’s ejected?

Beyond the players and referees, the court was swarmed by a sea of men in all-black tracksuits. It’s wild that these guys are part of each team’s coaching staff, but what gets me is how they all dress the same, aside from the team logos. I get that we’re past the era of coaches wearing suits on the sidelines, and most games don’t erupt into chaos. But they need to find a way to stand out from one another. In a heated moment, someone looking for a fight could easily mistake a coach for an opponent.

Speaking of which, coaches should also be held accountable in these bench-clearing incidents. There were clearly more than seven guys in black suits trying to "break up" the fight. Pablo Prigioni—the former Italian guard, now a Minnesota assistant—was even ejected, along with Detroit coach JB Bickerstaff, Minnesota’s Naz Reid, and Detroit’s Marcus Sasser.

If the coaching staff had more distinct attire, it would be a lot easier to tell who’s on which side.

Otherwise, it just looks like a mob of men in black, either keeping the peace or adding fuel to the fire.
