QUEST - DATI (MYX LIVE)

Quest is that kind of dude that could shower you with hurtful words but you’re not going to be mad because he has the voice of an angel.

Now I don’t know him in real life, legend has it that Quest is the Dragon Ball fusion of Jay Durias and every South Border vocalist they have had through the years. His songs are inspiring, his singing style is amazing, and heck... he made the PBA theme and the Gilas Pilipinas anthem “high end”.

Now I compare this rendition of Dati from Michael V’s Hindi Ako Bakla. I know... they are NOT the same song in any sense what’s-so-ever but there was a time when Michael V was a guest in some random GMA Saturday late-night show (I forgot if this is Comedy Bar or Master Showman) wherein he sang the song with a band and as if he’s singing a Parokya ni Edgar song. Bitoy rocked out to the tune and I had an “I should have recorded this when I had the chance” kind of vibe after listening to it.

Dati is one of my favorite songs during the pandemic period. I never really listened to the song when it first premiered but I kind of dug it during isolation because of the feels (Marvin-Jolina, Julio and Julia, Mylene and Bojo Molina). I have seen and heard countless renditions of Sam Concepcion and Tippy Delos Santos’ Philpop hit and most of the time, I kind of liked it.

With that said, Quest putting a spin on the hit took the song to another level. The song is the best song with Sam Concepcion and Tippy Delos Santos on board but this version is lights out good. I mean... if you’re a Quest fan and you’re thinking that he should have had more lines other than the rap in the middle of the song, then you should be giggling like a school for this MYX Performance.

Oh and another thing... I like this MYX stage. I have seen this with other bands and if you’re not going to have an audience, I guess it’s best to have a large, black room where the cameras can roam around as if the viewers are treated to a 4-D experience.
