It must be the era because I always grouped the late great Bobby Caldwell with the likes of Stephen Bishop, David Pomeranz, Boz Scaggs, Peter Cetera, and Michael Johnson—those late-'70s and early '80s love song crooners.
So it’s wild to think that many African-Americans assumed he was Black.
Then again, I had my own "wait, what?" moment years ago when I first heard Nexus' I Keep On Saying—I was convinced they were a white American boy band.
