I’ve always had a soft spot for OPM, especially the '90s scene. About two decades ago, I actually ranked my Top 50 OPM bands from that era. Spoiler alert: I’m a massive Eraserheads fan, though I’ve never been one to rush to their reunion shows (and now, they are back together again.)
As I revisited this blog, I realized that some bands on the list were ranked a little too high for my taste today. I thought about changing things up, but at the same time, there’s something special about preserving the original list as it was.
Still, just to tease what might be coming next: if I could reshuffle things, I’d definitely bump up Slapshock, Greyhoundz, Fatal Posporos, Elektrikoolaid, and Kulay. They deserve more love.
CRITERIA (a.k.a. Things I Avoid):
Screaming profanities just to sound “edgy”? Yawn.
Cringe-worthy lyrics? Hard pass.
Emo for emo’s sake? That phase is over.
No harmonies in sight? What a waste.
Vocals that make you want to puncture your eardrums? Nope.
Copy-paste melodies across an entire album? Please. Give us range.
